I Am Looking Forward to Reading Your Story.

My husband Gary and I recently attended a memorial service for one of his former partners and mentors. His professional life is a beautiful story, from his return as a soldier in World War Two to eventually starting a successful, award-winning architectural engineering firm with three partners. He was an ambitious and inspired leader.

We sat among family members, friends, and colleagues. It was hard not to be struck by the profound impact one's journey can have on so many lives: personal, business, industry, clients, and consumers. His remaining partner shared stories of their early days and the legacy they built together.

Gary spent 25 years at the firm, joining as a young professional eager to contribute something meaningful to the company and his profession. He was of the second generation to commit to what was to become an industry-renowned company. The visionary partners laid the firm's foundation. Each was a child of immigrant parents or grandparents from different countries.

The company started in a cramped space above the El in a suburb of Chicago. As with many firms, those early days in affordable yet less-than-desirable spaces became an endearing part of the legacy.

The founding partners raised 16 children and welcomed numerous grandchildren, along with the promise of great- and great-great-grandchildren. As an entity, the company weaves stories through the generations of families, binding them into one large family that will span generations.

The stories we heard at the memorial are not unique but universal shared stories of perseverance, innovation, and camaraderie. Everyone involved with the company loves to recount tales of late-night brainstorming sessions, the hurdles they overcame, and the milestones they achieved. Each partner's story built their character, values, and ambitions. They willingly shared their experiences with their families and inspired those around them, including young professionals like Gary and me.

What a rewarding experience it is to share insights and provide a light for your family and future generations. It's a gift. In today's fast-paced world, it's easy to underestimate the significance of documenting your personal and professional journey. Hearing your story can foster a deeper connection with your audience, clients, and family.

At the memorial, the remaining partner mentioned his intention to finish his business memoir—a project he had put off for years. His commitment to not letting these beautiful stories and extraordinary accomplishments dissipate without some record moved me.

Afterward, I approached him and said, "I look forward to reading your story." It was a sincere expression of anticipation, knowing his experiences could profoundly inspire and educate others.

You may have considered telling your story but need help figuring out where to start.

I specialize in business legacy books that blend personal and professional narratives. I work closely with you to ensure your voice and experiences are accurately and authentically represented. My role is to help organize and structure your stories for a wider audience and current generations while always respecting your content ownership.

Writing your story is a rewarding process of reflection and discovery. You revisit pivotal moments that shaped your career and the values that guided your decisions. Importantly, it will enable you to leave a lasting impact beyond your business endeavors. While it may require some time and effort, the process is often as valuable as a result, allowing you to gain new insights and perspectives on your journey.

The founding partners of Gary's firm understood the importance of storytelling. Their tales were not just recollections of the past but lessons and inspirations for the future. It is their legacy.

As you contemplate the next chapter of your life, consider the power of your story. By sharing your experiences, you contribute to a legacy of knowledge and inspire others to pursue their dreams. Your story can ensure that the lessons you've learned continue to make a difference, serving as a guide for future generations in the business world.

I echo the words I shared with Gary's partner that day:

I am looking forward to reading your story.
